Global Digital Citizenship: A Jigsaw Activity (Reflection)

1.) The technology resource I presented was the iPad. The iPad would be appropriate in most learning environments. Centers is a major one that comes to mind because centers have so many options as well as the iPad does. The iPad would also be useful during research times since they are portable, have the internet, and they usually come in a class set. If there was ever a "free time" during the day, the iPad would keep many children busy after completing all of their work while still being educational.

2.) The iPad would not be appropriate during recess. They are small and not very durable. They could get dirty or broken very easily on the playground. The iPads would also not be appropriate during times like note taking. Even though every student could be assigned a certain iPad, they would not be able to take them home with them after the school day is done. Since they do not have a USB port to save files to a flash drive, students could not have their notes with them to reference while doing homework for example.

3.) Simple modifications could be made where the iPad was appropriate in all settings. At recess if the students were very responsible and were watched from afar by an adult that they were not doing anything at risk to the iPads would be acceptable. This would also not be allowed all the time. If the student wanted to take pictures outside for example would be a good enough reason. If the student only wanted to read or play games on it during recess then no they would have to stay inside to use them or bring a hardcopy book with them. For note taking, students could email themselves their notes from the day so when they went home on their computer they would have all their information from the day.
